Menard County Texas

School For African Americans

Transcriber's Note: In researching old newspapers, remember the time period that is being researched and the "norms" for that period.

While I do not want to offend anyone, I will transcribe articles EXACTLY as they are written for the historical/genealogical value that can be found in them. They do not express my values or opinions, or anyone with the TXGenWeb project.

March 5, 1931- Menard Messenger:

"SCHOOL FOR COLORED CLOSED LAST FRIDAY"---Without ceremony or much-a-do, the school for colored children in Menard closed last Friday. This is the first year a school has been provided for the colored children. A six months term was had this year with between twenty and thirty pupils enrolled.

NOTE:  While I strive for accuracy in all transcriptions, please be advised that typing errors may be present.  I would suggest you always verify my online information with a copy of the actual record.

Have a Question or Comment About My Web Site?

Due to the increasing amount of "spam" I'm receiving from email "harvesters", I only publish my email link in jpg form. I am sorry for any inconvenience this might cause you...but I'm really tired of the "advertising trash" that is filling up my email box..
