Menard County Texas

James William "Jim" Dodd

by Dru Ann Jamison Clark
(see picture below)

James William (Jim) Dodd was born in Aug., 1872, in Texas, according to Census records. He was the son of Jarrett Hayes Dodd and Georgiana Isabella Johnson.

Jim's father, Jarrett Hayes Dodd, was born in Alabama on August 11, 1848. Sometime before 1872, Jarrett married Georgiana Isabella Johnson. Jarrett died December 07, 1929 at Clarance Dodd’s house (my grandmother) in Coleman, Coleman County, Texas. I do not have any further information on Georgiana or if there were siblings.

On Christmas Day, 1898, Jim married his bride, Nancy Elizabeth Brooks, in Santa Anna, Texas. To this union were blessed with 6 children, 2 dying in infancy. The remaining children were Clarance Dodd Jamison, born on Halloween night, 1899, in Coleman; Grace Dodd Pollard, 1901-2003; Ruby Dodd Lester, 1904-1999; James Cecil Dodd, 1906-1989.

Besides living in Menard, the family also had dwellings in Ballinger and Coleman.
