Benchoff StoreD. G. Benchoff came to Menard about 1895 and opened a Merchantile store. He later moved his store to the location where the present nursing home is now. I don't know if the picture below is from his first location...or the second one. Before 1900Original can be viewed in Menard Depot Museum
1900'sPictured below is the store that was completed in 1900 by Mr. Benchoff. Located on the corner of present day San Saba Avenue and Decker Street, they sold general dry goods and hardware and it was said that Mrs. Benchoff also carried a fine line of millinary goods.
D. G. Benchoff left Menard and would open a merchantile store in Nugent, Texas.
NOTE: It's said that the upper floor of this building had meeting rooms, apartments and a dance hall. I'm not sure if this is the setup when the Benchoff's owned the building or something the Wilensky's set up when they moved into the building.
NOTE: While I strive for accuracy in all transcriptions, please be advised that typing errors may be present. I would suggest you always verify my online information with a copy of the actual record.

Due to the increasing amount of "spam" I'm receiving from email "harvesters", I only publish my email link in jpg form. I am sorry for any inconvenience this might cause you...but I'm really tired of the "advertising trash" that is filling up my email box..
