Menard County Texas

Wilensky's Building in 2008

As you can tell, the Wilensky building is no longer in use and is falling down. I find this quite sad since the ole' girl has some very interesting architectural features and at one time, she was a very prominent figure in the history of Menard...as you can see below as we travel "back" in time.

In The Past

Wilensky Bros Store

(Note: The above picture was sent to me and I have no information on what time period it was)

(Note: The picture above may be seen at the Menard Depot Museum. I took a picture of it with my digital camera which is why there is a "flash glare" on the lower section)

At the Very Beginning........Benchoff Store

This building was originally built by D. G. Benchoff. (see Benchoff history) I have been told that the upper story was used as (1) apartments for agents of the railroad and (2) community dances. I hope to add more information on that as it becomes available.

Due to the increasing amount of "spam" I'm receiving from email "harvesters", I only publish my email link in jpg form. I am sorry for any inconvenience this might cause you...but I'm really tired of the "advertising trash" that is filling up my email box..
