Menard County Texas

Tullos Smith Burial Site

Located east of Menard on FM 2092 under a stand of trees is a solitary headstone protected by an iron fence. This is the burial location of Tull .Smith, born January 14, 1833 and died January 10, 1871.

His headstone reads "No pain, no grief, no anxious fear; Can reach the peace for Sleeper Here".

Other Possible Unmarked Burials Near Tullos Smith

Next to Tull Smith's headstone and inside the metal fence is a large slab. At this time I don't know if this is another individual's burial location....or part of the original markings for Tull's final resting place.

To the east of the metal fence stands a grove of trees where you can see other slabs or large rocks. Since these are not "natural" items for the area, I speculate that they may be markers for other burials.......but I have not been able to document this as fact.

January 2, 2005: K. P., one of our Menard Researchers sent me the following:

Excerpt from Menard News Centennial Edition-Nov.11,1971:

"Adam Bradford reared seventeen children to be adults..........two or three small children of his are buried east of Menard in what is now a field. The small tombstones can still be seen under some live oak trees."

Could it be that Adam Bradford's children are buried to the East of Mr. Smith?

(note: Thanks K.P. for sharing this with the site)
