Lehne/Champie Wedding At Ft. McKavett, May 28, 1891
“The wedding of Mr. Wm. Lehne and Miss Clare Champie, which took place yesterday evening, was perhaps one of the most interesting occasions that has occurred in our town for man a day. Both the contracting parties were raised in Menard County, and were well and favorably known by a long list of friends who seemed desirous of attending.
A great many tokens of regard for the young couple were presented them by their friends, and I regret that I have not a list of them to send you. Some of the offerings were very elegant.
After the ceremony, which was performed by Judge Ball in his most impressive manner, the entire party moved into the City Hall, where a string band awaited their arrival, and there the happy party danced until daylight began to make its appearance in the east. Among the number present were the following: Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Lehne, Mr. and Mrs. John Erskine, Mr. and Mrs. Champie, Mr. and Mrs. James Milligan, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Hunt, Mr. and Mrs. John Robbins, Mr. and Mrs. Johnson, Mr. and Mrs. Barksdale, Mr. and Mrs. Stamps, Mr. and Mrs. John Martin, Mr. and Mrs. Doc Word, Mr. and Mrs. Barfield, Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Ruff, Mr. and Mrs. J. McPherson, Mr. Louis Decker and Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Johnson of Meardville; Mrs Lawler of Junction City; Mrs. Lehne, Mrs. Lee, Mrs. Hutcherson, Misses Phenia and Therisa Mann, Mollie and Emma Lee, Mary Callow, Eva and Mary Sheen, Maude Ereich, Texia Hunt, Annie Percell, Needy Barfield, Lydia Milligan, Lelie Barksdale, Alice Garden, Mamie Hill, Patsie Prescott; Messrs. Reginera, Cris Hunt, Henry Treadwell, Judge Ball, Albert Prescott, John Wallick, Sam Wallick Jr., Reina Callow, Sol Mayer, Milam Shelemburger, Will and Mat Lee, Ed Lehne, Henry Champie, William Schwalbs, Wm.
