Bitten By Rattler

Last Thursday our old friend Mat Smith, who lives near Cherokee in San Saba County, while trying to pull an armadillo out of a hole, was bitten by a rattlesnake. and died from the effects of the bite on Friday. From the best information we can obtain, Mr. Smith was out after his milch cow late in the evening and on finding an armadillo he undertook to capture same when it ran into a hole. Mr. Smith put his arm into the hole expecting to catch the animal, but instead received a strike on the back of the hand from the snake. Without seeing what had struck him or without knowing he had been bitten by a snake, he went home and it was several hours before medical aid was summoned.

Upon examination of the wound by physicians it was decided the patient had been snake bitten and parties were sent at once to the scene of the accident whereupon they found and killed a larger rattle snake. Other physicians were called in and everything that medical skill and loving hands could administer was done, but the deadly poison had taken its effect and Mr. Smith died at 5 o'clock Friday afternoon.--Llano Searchlight

I.W. WILLIAMS SHOT
At a little after 12 o'clock on last Monday, I. W. (Bill) Williams walked into the Crystal Bar where he met Joe Bozarth who is proprietor of the business. A few moments after entering the building some four of five shots were heard and a number of the citizens rushed to the scene of the tragedy. It was discovered that one of the shots struck Mr. Williams in the body just below the breast, all others going wild. The difficulty arose over family trouble, Mr. Bozarth having been divorced from the daughter of Mr. Williams at the late term of District Court.
Bozarth was immediately arrested and placed under a $3,000 bond while Williams was taken to the Llano hospital where he was operated on. From the operation it was discovered the ball had ranged downward penetrating 5 of the small intestines and one of the large ones, all of which were sewed up, and at this writing, Wednesday noon, Mr. Williams is reported as resting fairly well with a fair chance of recovery.----Llano Searchlight.------
