FELONIOUS ASSAULT
Between 12 and 1 o'clock Sunday night Brue Benson was feloniously assaulted while sleeping by his freight wagons on the street back of the Anderson stable. The blow broke the double bone over the right eye, and cut a deep gnash below the eye, the sight of the eye however was not injured. Dr. Wardlaw was summoned and dressed the wound and Sheriff Hutcherson was called but was unable at that time of the night to find any trace of the perpetrator of the crime. Mr. Wellmaker who was in charge of the stable heard the man's groans and on investigation found him in the corner????
The injured man has been freighting on the Sonora road for many years. He is about 50 years of age and not married. The motive for his assault is unknown. About $13 on his person was not taken but it may have been that his cry of distress frightened the would be assassin away.
The character of the crime is so unusual in this country that the people were astonished on learning of the assault. The injured man will recover. -------Sonora News---------

Saturday evening when Feles Martines, who looks after the herders of several flocks of sheep; moves camps, gathers in the lost sheep, etc., commonly known as "rustler" counted the flock herded by Seferino Savallis, a dispute arose. Seferino cut Feles two slashes in the right breast; Feles got to his horse and drawing his rifle shot Seferino through the right lung. The bullet wound caused the death of Seferino a few hours later. Feles was brought to Sonora and will recover. Both men were working for Mears & Wilkerson on the T half circle ranch.----Devil's River News.
