Jim Dodd Killed By Shot Gun Discharge
Jim Dodd was killed by the accidental discharge of a shot gun over which
he was working at 9:30 Monday morning. The charge tore off the entire
top of his head above the eyes. Jim had purchased the gun, a Winchester
pump, the evening before and immediately started overhauling the gun upon
coming to work the next morning preparatory to getting it in shape before
work with Gus Milam. He got several shells and was testing out the gun
when one went off. A few minutes later the second was fired and death
was instantaneous.
Mr. Dodd was forty four years old and came to this county five years
ago with the Menard Hardware people. He was a first class tinner and after
the hardware went out of business he set up a shop for himself. He had
many friends here who join the family in mourning his loss.
He leaves his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. Dodd, his wife and three daughters,
Clarence aged 16, Grace aged 14, Ruby aged 13 and one son, Cecil, aged
9. Funeral services were held from the home at 2 o'clock Tuesday.
Rev. Boatman had charge of the funeral and the pall bearers were; Jim
Mears, Jess Slaughter, Loyce Callan, R. E. Lindsey, Ren Luckenbach and
C. E. Mauldin.
