Charles H. Lewis-An Old Time Resident of Menard Passed Away at Dallas, Texas October 21, 1916

Deceased was born in Carrollton, Ky. Sept. 24th, 1853. At the age of thirty he moved to Florida where he engaged in orange growing till the year 1887 when on account of failing health he moved to Menard, residing here about twelve years.

Moved to Dallas and organized the firm of Shuttle Bros. & Lewis, wholesale Jewelers. His health again failing, he retired from this firm a few years ago, but continued his residence in Dallas.

He is survived by his wife and two daughters, other relatives are two sisters and two brothers of which one is our fellow townsman, W. W. Lewis.

The bereaved wife was formerly Miss Ella Ryan who once lived and had many friends in Menard.

It is but natural that the hearts of the old timers go out to these people in their great sorrow and loss.

We knew C. H. Lewis as a good citizen, a sound business man and of sterling integrity in every walk of life, congenial he lent his talents to social affairs and contributed much to making life worth living in the Menard of that time, and we are glad he was permitted to spend a few days in the old place again before the final summons came.

To the wife and daughters he left, it would be safe to say that if life throws you in contact with one of the old Menard bunch it will be no mistake to rate him as a friend.

Dr. R. A. Lindley Dies in Ft. Worth
A message received here Wednesday morning brought the sad news of the death of 7:00 o'clock that morning in Fort Worth of Dr. Raymond A. Lindley. While the news was not altogether unexpected, yet it was a shock to the many Brady and McCulloch county friends of the doctor. His brother, Dr. Harry Lindley and wife had been advised Monday of the seriousness of his illness and had gone to Fort Worth to be with him. It is learned that the doctor had been ill with Spanish Influenza, but that on Tuesday he was so much improved as to venture to be up. A relapse, however, speedily brought on the pneumonia, from which he succumbed.
Dr. Lindley was well known throughout this part of the state having had dental offices in San Saba, Brady and Menard before removing to Fort Worth. While he was recognized as one of the best in his profession, for the past couple years he had devoted a good portion of his time to the exploitation and marketing of a chemical marking ink of his own invention, and also a screw worm medicine. It was for the purpose of securing better shipping and marketing facilities for these products that he was prompted only a few months ago to move to Ft. Worth to make his headquarters.
Of genial, whole souled disposition, the doctor was universally liked and his death is sincerely regretted by all.
The body was shipped to Brownwood, his former home Thursday and funeral services held there Friday. A number of Brady people went to Brownwood for the funeral.
Surviving are his mother Mrs. Belle Lindley, of Brownwood and brother Dr. Harry Lindley of Brady.----Brady Standard
