Postmasters and Post Office Information

Earliest "non-official" Postmasters

"Mr Mires (Patrick Mires) was the first settler to act as postmaster for the village, with Mr. Smith (Tullos Smith) second. The post office was not officially established until June 16, 1868, when Lee C. Blake was named postmaster, but mail was brought here before that time." PETTICOAT MONEY IS REFUNDED
Several of the good ladies of this community who sent their hard earned dimes (they were hard earned because they got them fro their husbands) to the Minneapolis concern which promised to send a silk petticoat to each and every one, have received back their money. One lady however, who says that she sent her dime in a pink envelope with the stamp in the lower left hand corner is threatening to sue the Post Office Dead Letter department unless they return that dime pronto. She thinks that is a shame the way the government keeps her money and that if she ever gets an opportunity to vote she is going to vote for W. J. Bryan as she knows he wouldn't treat a lady that way.

Due to the increasing amount of "spam" I'm receiving from email "harvesters", I only publish my email link in jpg form. I am sorry for any inconvenience this might cause you...but I'm really tired of the "advertising trash" that is filling up my email box..
