A civilian community that sprang up near Fort McKavett to profit from the soldiers. This was a pretty "wild" community in it's beginnings with gambling, drinking, womanising, outlaws, etc. When the military moved out in the 1880's, the residents of "Scabtown" moved into the Fort buildings and it was reported that most of the "unsavories" left about that time and the community settled down to become Ft. McKavett.

Due to the increasing amount of "spam" I'm receiving from email "harvesters", I only publish my email link in jpg form. I am sorry for any inconvenience this might cause you...but I'm really tired of the "advertising trash" that is filling up my email box..
