October 5, 2011-Added individuals serving as Menard Sheriff and County Clerk in 1869

October 4, 2011-Added 1921 article in African American section. Julia (Embry) Webster's death notice.

September 28, 2011-Added more Business Directories.

September 27, 2011-(1) I've been "re-working" the business section and adding more businesses and pictures. I don't have all the "kinks" out from moving things around and renaming files, so please bear with me. (2) Death notice of Tom Bradshaw (1936).

September 26, 2011-Added Murchison's story of cattle drives and Mrs. C. E. Treadwell bio from 1936 Menard News and Messenger. Will be adding more of these 1936 short bios in the next few days.

July 2, 2011-Since I'm going to be away from the computer for a little while....I'm trying to finish up the 1918 news articles today. Since there are so many, I'm not going to list them seperately here.....or I'll never get them all uploaded. LOL The time period is Oct 1918-December 1918....and they'll mostly be death notices/obits. A few are marriage announcements and information about Menard boys overseas.

June 30, 2011- Added 1918 obits/death announcements for Woodrow Wilkerson and Samuel Winslow. Also added WWI news.

June 29, 2011-Added newspaper articles on accidents that happened around Menard in 1918. Also added newspaper transcripts from 1918 to military page.

June 22, 2011-As I mentioned before, I've been working on placing Menard Cemeteries online at Find-A-Grave. I've started linking my cemetery indices here to the graves on Find-A-Grave. Will continue that as time allows.. Several added to Pioneer Rest Cemetery today.

October 18, 2010: Most of Menard County burials are now on Findagrave and I'm going back to add headstones. I will continue to add burials and bio info to my Menard site as time allows. Thanks for your patience with me.

June 22, 2010: I have been adding cemetery records and headstone pictures on Find-a-grave for Menard burials.

November 15, 2009: Added 1876 Menardville petition to "formation" page. Thanks to Wynell Simpson for donating her transcription and pics. Also forgot to post pics shared with me of Vaughan/Noguess cemetery. You can view these here.

July 7, 2009: Added a basic bio for John M. "Humpy" Jackson and story about Scabtown shootout.

July 4, 2009: I was able to update information on Menard sheriff's terms of office. Thanks to Robert Bean for sharing this information with me.

December 16, 2008: Added 2008 obituary excerpts....and updated postmasters.

December 9, 2008: Bio and pic of James "Jim" Dodd.

November 22, 2008: Added information about Frank Hamby and Fred King altercation where King was killed. (There was a reference to this in Clarence Dodd's diary Sept 1914.

November 21, 2008: Added new information about county formation, teacher pictures...Mrs. Fenley and Mrs. Avery (Donated by Dru Ann Thompson)

November 20, 2008: Added additional information about Indian activity around Menard in 1870 time period. I also added a picture of Menardville, Tx men dated about 1905.

November 15, 2008: Added newspaper accounts of Indian troubles around Menard County. (See Index of Indian Acitivity.) I also updated the Opp/Bihl Cemetery page with research located of 1917 burial of Alfred Jones, son of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Jones. I've also added a small newspaper article from the Galveston news that speaks of a General Doubleday, who commanded at Ft. McKavett. This is posted here. Suicide letter of H. Miller Dobbins added here. 1885 Co. Atty appontment. Also started a section on the unfortunate incident between Vaden and Ben Daniels here.

November 14, 2008: I have started a new section called "Mystery Pictures". I will be adding pictures of people and places we think are connected to Menard....but we need help in the identification. Have also added an 1898 water report to the Miscellaneous items. A few Menard residents are mentioned in this report. Updated "B" and "A" obituary index.

November 13, 2008: I have received something so very special from Dru....that I couldn't wait to format it and get it online. It is a transcription from her grandmother's diary written during the 1914-1915 time period by a young 14 year old girl living in Menard. Beyond giving us a look into the activities and life in the early 1900' is full of infomation about other Menard residents. I'm very grateful to Dru for sharing this piece of her family history with the Menard TXGenWeb site!

November 10, 2008: Added an article found on abduction of Mrs. Dorothy Fields by Indians (1870)

November 6, 2008: Worked on Lori Bihl Dunn's donation of Opp/Bihl Cemetery pics and information. Will fine tune this after Lori checks it out.

November 3, 2008: Started work on information donated by Lori Bihl Dunn on the Opp/Bihl Cemetery. This is still under construction. I have pictures and information Lori shared that I haven't uploaded yet.

November 2, 2008: As you can tell, it's been a long time since I've updated the Menard site. Needing to replace a computer and then health issues have made online work impossible. Hopefully, all that is behind us and I'll soon be adding material to the website. Cross your fingers!!

March 28, 2008: you may have noticed, Menard TXGenWeb is at a new location. I haven't had time to do much more than get the existing site loaded to my new domain/server. It will take me a short while to work out the broken links, set up new search engines, etc. so please bear with me.

February 19, 2008: Added Crawford brothers "Card of Thanks", 1918 news articles, birth announcement of Sieker baby, and 1918 accident report. I still have numerous 1918 obituaries that will be added as time allows.

February 18, 2008: Added Emil Toepperwein bio and pictures.

February 17, 2008: Added (Yolintias/Volintias) Garcia's accidental death, marriage announcements for the year 1918,

February 16, 2008: Added T. R. Billings shooting and changed the format for similiar killings. Originally I had them indexed as "murders" but technically, some of the individuals involved may have been found innocent when they went to I'm re-classifying them as "Killings". Added obits for: William L. Milam and Wm H. Crawford

February 15, 2008: Added 1871 County Clerk, updated Past Officials, and added the J.D. Smith Distributing Co to business section.

February 8, 2008: I've begun work on a new section which I've entitled "A Stroll Through Menard" showing "downtown Menard" as it is today and adding the history behind the buildings. This is a work in progress.

February 3, 2008: I've added some information on Menard schools and Splittgerber Stage Stand that I found in a 1936 newspaper. I also transcribed an article about the 1899 flood in Menardville.

January 29, 2008: I've added some new pictures of the Menard Courthouse after it's renovation. Have also added some pics on the jail cells that are in the courthouse....but no longer used. I've also added some new pictures and a marriage invitation for Elva Harris and Henry Vander Stucken.

January 22, 2008: I've updated the photos index, and re-worked some of the courthouse/jail information. I've also prepared a page for Emil Toepperwein's bio which will be added shortly.

January 21, 2008: Added new information about early postmasters, 1800 businesses, added picture of what is reportedly a drawing of the "first house" in Menardville, and a San Antonio newspaper account about the horse rustlers capture,

January 18, 2008: I've added another picture of the old Menardville courthouse, bio of Noah H. Rose, Ragsdale picture of Rangers, and Paso de la Santa Cruz historical marker pic.

January 17, 2008: Well, the holidays are behind us and hopefully I'll have extra time this year to work on Menard. Have uploaded new headstone pics to Pioneer Cemetery, a new section which will cover land ownership, Moser Motors 1960 matchbook ad, Sykes check to Wool and Mohair business index, headstone pics uploaded for Jacoby Cemetery.

September 30, 2007: Added another railroad station picture.

September 29, 2007: I have started a page for Menard Divorces and added link for Rootsweb Divorce archives. I also started a page listing present and past Menard Mayors. This is under construction and additional names will be added as available.

September 7, 2007: Added additional headstone pictures to Pioneer Cemetery. Also added a section to document Civil War Veterans buried in Menard.

September 6, 2007: Added scanned marriage license for C.E. Smith and JFP Kruse, also looked at book one of Probate Minutes. Began index. Added Splittgerber/Ellis Cemetery and rough draft of Garden of Memories Cemetery and Jacoby Cemetery..

September 5, 2007: Have added back the old index I had for burials at Vaughan/Noguess Cemetery. Still haven't been able to get out there and get pictures. I also placed Tull Smith's burial back online with some changes and updated his bio.

September 4, 2007: Have added "C" surname death records.

September 3, 2007: I have started adding some death records. I'll add more as time allows....and will verify I have all "A" and "B" surname records. (At this time, I just added what I had on my computer)

September 2, 2007: I am working on Menard businesses in the 1800's.......Preachers of Menard, 1936 special edition of Menard Messenger and Baptist church history. I've also started working on the Justices of the Peace in Menard.

August 31, 2007: I have been working on a special edition of a Menard Messenger newspaper of 1936. This was called the "Pioneer Edition" and mentions many "old-timers" who helped settle Menard County. I will be adding more information as time allows here.

August 30, 2007: Added information and pictures about the Mission Theater in Menard Texas.

August 28, 2007: Added 1904 article on businesses in Menard. Soon I will be starting short bios found in a 1936 "Pioneer Edition" of the Menard Messenger.

August 18, 2007: Added lease letter of G. Baker and information on Ft. McKavett military companies.

August 9, 2007: Added some 1933 information on the "Cottonwood Saloon" and the formation of the Lutheran Church of Menard. Small amount of information on the forming of Church of Christ in Menard.

August 7, 2007: Have added information and pictures for Sacred Heart Catholic Church

July 27, 2007: I've added checks for F. Erwin and W. F. Word. (See signature section)

July 25, 2007: I've added a new section called "signatures". Will be adding more later.

July 21, 2007: Have started a page for Menard Wool and Mohair Co, Inc and will add 1910-1920 business papers given to me as time allows. Also added Luckenbach Hardware, Iron Clad Saloon and Cottonwood Saloon.

July 16, 2007: Got 1885/1886 Menardville Murmurings online.

July 15, 2007: Well, I worked on the site so much last night and this morning........I didn't keep up with all updates/new additions. I finished the 1917 transcriptions and added them to each section they belong in such as obits, accidents, anniversaries, etc. and will be working on some 1885 and 1886 newspaper transcriptions in the next few days.

July 14, 2007: Added Jurors, organization and picture of Home Guard/Militia and worked on some obits.

July 13, 2007: Added reunion page, updated birth announcements, McKavett Community, 1884 Menard Murmurings, "b" obits, school info and military news.

July 11, 2007: Added the 1917 obit for Carolina James, J.D. (I.D.) Pettigrew and Thomas Somersville.

July 8, 2007: After being gone almost 5 months with an illness in my family, I'm finally back to the Menard TxGenWeb site. I've added some 1917 murder articles, some court cases and have worked on the general 1917 news. I hope to get started on the "re-vamping" of the cemetery material in the next few weeks. BTW, Menard County won the County of the Month award for May 2007. We'll see if I can make it bigger and better.

February 4, 2007: I've added an index to Pioneer Rest Cemetery....history and picture on Callan Community....Railroad pictures...Railroad history... Menard Library....updated Benchoff Store info.........added Wilensky Bros Store....

February 3, 2007: I've added the Waddell Cemetery pictures and info.....Landmarks and Historical Markers

January 19, 2007: I've added all the headstone pictures I have at present for Ft. McKavett Cemetery. Will add more when I get a chance to go back out there.

January 13, 2007: I've added some information on schools in Menard County and some pictures donated of the girls basketball teams of 1915 and 1916. Also check out changes and additions made to the Naturalization section. I've also been trying to figure out why my new files aren't showing a "date" format so Freefind can search for my newest pages. I haven't gotten that figured out yet...but hope to soon. (As you can sometimes tell, I do alot of work LATE at night and don't always remember to write my additions to this update page. <SIGH> So much to little sleep. ;-)

January 6, 2007: I've added the old links back for Cleo Cemetery, marriages, military, fires, floods, funeral information, etc. I should have the rest back up by next week. I also added a freefind "What's New?" link to the site. It's supposed to keep a record of when pages are changed.....but we'll see how it works out.

January 4, 2007: I've added information on Joseph Dunagan and Martha Wenonah Learn in the "bios" section.

October 23, 2006- I've been pretty busy the last month or so and have just been adding back some of the files from the old site..such as early businesses, biographies, etc.. I won't be posting those pages here...but only the new files that haven't been on my site before.

September 23, 2006- I got the birth records and birth announcements back online.

September 22, 2006- I added African American school news and courthouse history.
